[THREADMARKS DEMO] I found a baby...something (rat?). Help!

Ugh, having to feed him every two hours is going to be tough, hopefully this phase doesn't last long.
I'm guessing a couple weeks at most given how fast these things grow ?
I would think it will grow super fast so shouldn't have to do that for more than a couple weeks.

Not sure if rat, squirrel or chipmunk pups vary much in size from mice, but it looks like a mouse to me. Mice are not really great pets. Wild mice are going to be even worse.

Just want to say good on you OP for dedicating your time to take of the little guy. Poor thing, probably wouldn't have survived much longer if you didn't scoop him up.

status update: still very small.

5th feeding went okay. he didn't drink as much as his 4th feeding [where he took about half a CC in a couple of minutes] but I'm trying not to overfeed and he seems pretty clear about when he's not hungry anymore

still no poop, mildly anxious about that, but he was probably really dehydrated when found and guides saying it can be 24+ hours 'til first poo if they are, and it's only been 17, so

So mice are actually pretty stupid compared to rats?

Never spent much time around either, I assumed they were about the same, just one bigger.
I haven't worked with rats in a research setting but according to people I've talked to yes. I knew a couple who had pet rats and they were awesome also (both the rats and the couple).

Mice aren't dumb, exactly, they just don't have a lot of personality.

Ayyyyyyyy he pooped

pooped a LOT actually.

It was a long, narrow strand of brown/black, then the yellow I was told to expect. Maybe he had some blockage he had to clear? Not sure

Still alive, still squirmy

Butt, he does look a little dry there. Did you try wrapping him in that 30 celcius damp cloth mentioned by that Italian vet a few pages back?
Yeah I'm doing it each feeding. I think finally working up the poop dried him out a bit, he was very hungry/thirsty after and a bit dry. back to damp now
